The Importance of Sacrifice in a Society
The Talmud says that when a man divorces his first wife, Amis beiach married de mahot, the altar sheds tears. Marriages fail when the partners are unwilling to make sacrifices for one another. Judaism survived not despite but because of those sacrifices where people make sacrifices for their ideals. Sacrifice is an expression of love. Not all sacrifices howl. Today suicide bombers sacrifice their lives and those of their victims in a way I have argued in my book nodding God's name is sacralenge.
