The Complexity of Raffles' Legacy

The name Raffles is brilliant, isn't it? If he'd been Smith for Jones or Williams or even Paris, he might have been forgotten. He was really good friends with William Wilberforce. So there's not nothing to the story, even if there's a load of contradictions in it. True, but slavery was abolished in 1807 and he didn't get to Singapore until 1823 when that happened.
