How Specific Curiosity Enhances Creativity
Researchers found that when people are motivated to solve a multifaceted puzzle, what they do is that they generate ideas. They would have an initial idea and their next idea would be in many ways built upon the initial idea without abandoning the initial ideas entirely. And it's this phenomenon that relies on initial idea as stepping stone that seems to allow Idea Linking to be even more effective, at least for individual creativity, compared to individual brainstorming.
