The German Revolution: A Novel Experiment in Economic Union Without Political Union

Post-Napoleonic Germans faced an insane array of tariffs and custom lines. Many in Germany looked to places like France and Great Britain with a great deal of jealousy. In 1833, the three big unions consolidated into what is called the Sulfurine. With a few minor exceptions that would later be brought into the fold, there was now a single customs barrier ringing the German Confederation where goods could move freely.
