The Fear of Running Away From the Parent

The child moves away from the caregivers to explore the world in various different ways, mentally and physically. And then something scary happens, as said, inevitably well, and the child runs back to the parent. When the child is being abused by the parents, the child is stuck between a rock and a hard place because they are instinctually wanting to run towards the caregiver. But what if the parent is the threat? So the child doesn't know what to do.
