The Roman Invasion of Britain
Roman general Claudius was tasked with the invasion of Britain in AD 43. He assembled what we think would have been four legions in Gaul and a similar number of auxiliaries. But they refused to board the transports, as Roman army didn't like getting into boats. Some shipwreck sailors that actually ended up in Britain came back with terrifying tales of this place beyond the sea of sea monsters and were creatures. And so it was all very terrifying for them. They actually refused to embark. A freedman, a man called Narcissus, spoke to the troops and effectively shamed them into getting onto the transports. And so the invasion was underway.
