Aquinas on Free Will
David gallager has drawn valuable attention to the relation of reason and will in aquinas. stephen wang argues that we can speak of freedom as a means co operating with god, a mode of self creation. I have argued that the modern problem of free will makes certain assumptions about causality. The only thing that would constrain one to answer yes is a con n of reality according to which reasoning is not a distinct kind of power with its own causal force. On this conception of reality, the only imaginable metaphors for human agency diminish us to amoral animals or swirling storms.
