Is Russia Going On? Is It Unsustainable?
Time matters for these sorts of things, particularly if you're looking at Russia. The story of the collapse of Germany in World War I is the story of an economic blockade that starts in 1914 and takes four and a half years to actually have any effect. And so it may well be that Russia limps on in this uncomfortable, but by no means impossible position. It's unsustainable, that's the thing. Yes, this may well limp on for an uncomfortably long time with unpleasant casualties on all sides, but the alternative is not something I think people who believe in democracy have prepareds countenance.
