The Healing Properties of Fizzy Wells

holy wells of which there were thousands were a very very important thing to rural Irish people. The most important wells were ones that contained any amount of carbonation. Any well that had those properties naturally in Ireland was considered to be a powerful conduit to the other world. When poor Irish immigrants got to New York in the 1840s and visited a soda fountain or every all the yanks are drinking this sort of water when the Irish drank it they understood it to be magical  and also healing.
