Julian's Theology and Neoplatonism

Julian saw himself as the Pontifex Maximus and the chief priest of Rome's religious system. He renounced things like the crown tax, for instance,. And he uses that to kind of show that we're all worth the limited set of gods, understand names. For him, those gods in turn are, in fact, philosophical principles. But he basically sees that the worship of these gods as Diocletian and those before him guaranteed the preservation of and prosperity of the empire.
