The Twaregs Are Not White, They Are Blaks.
The twareg society has been heracised in a way that you may almost describe as racial. The noble classes resent the notion that they would be part of a state governed by people whom they see as their slaves. They feel that integration into nation states like nisa and mali means that the culture in which they have this privileged position will dissolve. But when the nobles speak of cultural genocite, what they sing is that this culture in which we do all this pageantry, we drink tea, we do music, some one else is doing the work.
