The Standard Definition of Government
The majority of dictionaries and encyclopaedias that i looked at used the general definition, but usually with a formulation that emphasized the state. Only the oxford english dictionary, which is a gargantuan 20 volume affair, mentioned a private polity at all. So why did i buck the almost consensous trend of emphasizing the state? Why did i formulate it without even mentioning the state? Let's look at the other criteria, clarity. Both the general and state specific definitions are clear and coherent. They both hilate something important that exists in the real world. What about convenience?
