Sloane would later claim that that song was a major reason why the 20 sixth amendment to the us. Constitution was passed six years later. The line, you're old enough to kill, but not for voting, shamed congress into changing the constitution to allow 18 year olds to vote. As well as going to number one in mc guire's version, the song was also covered by the other artists who regularly performed sloan and baby songs like the turtles.
