Chaw, a Lollipop or a Sweet?
Laren in new zealand, whose mum uses the word chaw for a lolly or a sweet eg. And she's never been able to figure out where came from. So i need to enlist the help giles of the purple people, because i've never heard chaw used for what the americans would call a piece of candy and what we would call sweet. The other chaw is linked to the word char, meaning a turn of work or an odd job. If you've got chaw from char, is it possible you could have chaw meaning something to sweet?
