The film starts out pretty quickly, you get to know the character of Bert right away. Then you do a flashback about 30 minutes where we're learning more about the path and the bond that they developed. The idea of the two time periods was existed in every draft. And Alan Baumgarden in particular came on. He made huge contribution because we were basically cutting two or three versions of the same movie at the same time.
