Prep and the 90s
Business casual started in the early 90s and a lot to do with Silicon Valley. khakis and polos became the easy breezy uniform of institutional power. Abercrombie and Fitch had revamped in 1992 to become a fratty version of preppy. Vineyard Vines was founded in 1998 to become a country club version of Preppy. Ralph Lauren was just growing bigger and more ubiquitous.
