In 450s, the barbarians slipped past Constantine's troops in interspain. The aristocracy of this region had deep, deep roots and were hyper-rich by any measure. Representatives were the glue that bound these aristocrats together. This was a personal world; even more than their raw wealth or rank, it was easy access to power that set blue-blooded aristocrats apart from the rest of society.
