The Growth of Rural Industry

Grain riots were a common occurrence, particularly in regions where grain was transported away into large cities like paris or rome. Population growth all but stopped after the first 20 years of the seventeenth century and this accounted to a degree for the slowing of inflation too. In many areas of europe, rural crafts became more common, prompted by population growth of the last century. The growth of rural industry promoted what some historian somewhere came to label proto industrialization. But we've not yet come to the great age of the agricultural revolution. So why don't we turn to one of those nation states then, and find out how the ebb and flow of political history affected their fortunes?
