Child Marriages in Assam
The Assam CM tweeted that he was doing this as a health measure because of the large number of teenage pregnancies in the state. Child marriages have been organically declining over the years, although it still remains a very valid concern. But by using large-scale arrests and criminalization to address such a complex social legal problem, we fear that we may end up harming the very target population that we're seeking to protect.
