The Second Servile War

The Second Servile War broke out a generation later while Marius recruited for his showdown with the Kimbury in 104 BC. Both slave uprisings were eventually quelled, but only after great effort and expense. The Roman Senate did not yet recognize what was happening in Campania was in fact another slave revolt. They dispatched an irregular militia of about 3,000 to round up the fugitives and put a halt to the looting. While Glauber slept, dreams of a consulship dancing in his head, the slaves approached from behind, surprised the militia, and killed them all.
