The History of the Church's Humanitarian Contributions
Spencer: I think it's important that we frame historically how little the church seemed to report its humanitarian contributions. John: The church started tracking their humanitarian efforts in 1985 when they raised fast offering funds to help support some, to provide famine relief in Ethiopia. Spencer: In 1996, the church started an auxiliary called LDS Charities and that was when that charity was kind of assigned and charged with the humanitarian aid aspect of church giving.
