American intelligence use some of the time honored methods of spy craft for example they might be friendly with a faculty member at a university who might have ties to FBI or CIA. Other things can just be socially cultivating somebody you know through friends and contacts get to know them well take them out on a boatTake them to a ballgame make friends and then approach the subject then sureYeah we kind of own them because if that information got back to their home country they'd be in trouble so you know we use that approach foreign espionage services use that approach as well.
