The Risk of a Debt-Seeding Disaster
The Federal Government instituted a debt-seeding way back in 1917. Since then, the limit has been suspended or raised over 100 times. In January Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced that the U.S. had reached the limit and was initiating extraordinary measures to pay the bills. Republicans have vowed to bring budget concessions for the administration in return for a vote to increase or suspend the debt- seeding.
