The data model could be mixed across devices. So even if you're adding fields and that makes the app not crash, you actually have to put conditional code in the new versions to deal with data that doesn't have that field. I was hoping for some better things with CloudKit. iOS 13 brought a lot of improvements for CloudKit, especially with it being hooked into Core Data natively,. having a persistence container.
