Heart rate variability is the time between successive beats of your heart, also known as HRV. Your autonomic nervous system consists of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity. When you're stressed or exercising, you're going to probably be sympathetic dominant. That's heart rate up, blood pressure up, respiration up. Parasympathetic is all the opposite. It's what helps you fall asleep. And that's a sign that your body is balanced and tuned, relaxed, peaking.
