For a while, around 16 hundred b c, cush was the largest state in africa. It can't be a coincidence that some of the strongest rulers of egypt's middle kingdom were forced to expend tremendous amounts of effort fighting their neighbors to south. There are even signs of its influence as far away as the horn of africa, in present day ethiopia and samalia. Next time on tides of history, we're going to head even further back to the north to meet the rich, sophisticated and powerful princely societies of bronze age europe.
