Marianne claims that I'm sounding too calm about the power of newspapers and then their influence on the BBC. But it's as much an act as watching Ian McKellen playing King Lear or something, she says. The reason the BBC gave the Lineker affair such prominence when he first tweeted before he was suspended was because the telegraph and the mail splashed with it on their front pages. It is a factor in Britain being like it is. And it is a factor as to why we have such crap public servicesBecause it's taboo to say you need more investment and that tax might have to go up.
