Culture is impoverished by only prioritizing the most immediately commercially viable things. A lot of things that aren't immediately commercially obvious end up serving as Petri dishes or RMD labs for ideas. It would take a very ambitious person to argue that we are in a better, more stimulating, more intriguing cultural landscape than we were before the platform ball went off.
