Explanatory Factor Analysis Is a Very Useful Tool
I don't think kitchen exploratory factor analysis is useful. When you throw a bunch of junk in there, there can be all kinds of mechanisms that are driving their into relations. Factor analysis essentially has no choice but to suggest factors to try to explain. You could have a system of variables where x one causes x two, which causes x three, which causes X four, which causes five. A mechanism has nothing to do with factors at all. And you can subject that to a factor analysis, and itsas dang. You got yourself one mother of a good first factor. But i do think it's an important exploratory tool in our tool bell.
