The outward standard becomes a sign of what's happening on the inside and if the outside's not right, then quite evidently the inside is not right to them as well. If you aren't keeping up with the standards, then you're seen as starting down the slippery road to backslide. And we could go into a ton of different details on that whether that be say skirt length jewelry, makeup, possibly trim in your hair. You start to see again that same gossip rumors that they're going lax on the standards.
