The notion is that good ideas are getting harder to find, or that the scientific system is becoming less efficient and less productive overtime. There are various theories as to whyt this might be. I remember there was a screen shot going round on twitter the other day of an article that was published in nature well over a hundred years ago. And maybe there's something also to the idea that as scientific science advances, then there's just so much more that any person entering that science can learn.
