The Difference Between Mystery and Suspense

Suspense and mystery are polar opposites in some ways. You have suspense by giving away a little bit of the mystery like Dan just explained. As you say to add to Hitchcock's piffy quote you know actions when the bomb explodes, suspense is when the bomb doesn't explode but mystery is when we can't see what's under the table. A great example of this distinction would be Dune because it's written in omniscient. We've already been able to peek under the tablecloth and we know exactly how unlikely it is.
