Anil: There's a lot going on there and a lot to unpack from my friend Irene. When she talks about mounting slow waves, what is Irene talking about? She's talking about these very slow oscillations in overall brain activity. And this hints at an underlying mechanism for anaesthesia and loss of consciousness in general. Anil: It means that the overall patterns of information flow and communication throughout the brain are broken. That's what we really see at a whole brain level.
