Is Gender a Construct?

It seems to me quite plausible that gender rolls are socially constructed. But what about the physiological underpinnings of gender? That doesn't yet settle the question whether gender is entirely socially constructed. In some cases, political uses of social constructivism are motivated by people who want to show something. If anything it's better to defend the independently on its own ground and then try to determine ethically how this can be done.
