Stoicism and Epicureanism in Rome

Stoicism is more easily adaptable to the ambitions of an empire. Epicureanism does make inroads, certainly, in roman society, but it never becomes as powerful as a stoicism. Because epicurus also emphasizes that in order to achieve spiritual tranquillity, you should withdraw from public life. That simply doesn't suit a power that has a realm and vast empire to manage. And so for that reason, as well as stoicism remains more popular in the end.
