The Importance of Distance in Cinema
There's something about distance and emotion and sympathy, but also I guess the Decontextralized nature of the spectacle. That cinematic distance the sort of voyeur like being in the crowd watching. Just like the being in the Colosseum between two gladiators. Does something to our perception. And film really gets at that because of the idea of close up versus wide angle shot. The way that's editing works is it creates this continuity out of all these discontinuities perceptions into this Sort of perceived unity. It kind of accelerates that false dimensionality.
