The bazerka hypothesis is based on the idea that some alien civilization in the remote past built self replicating killing machines. This has never been superpopular in theory, not just because it's slightly dark, but also because it seems so darnd science, fictional. But i have been looking into it, and i think i have some decent argument. While this seems unlikely, and you can actually make an ecological argument. If you have these self reblicating systems hiding out where amongst the stars, what if somebody were releasing another strain of them? Well, they would need to wipe that one out.
