The Role of Protein Amino Acids in Diabetes

In pre-diabetes, the beta cells seem to remain pretty normally sensitive to amino acids. So they can interpret a rise of amino acids in the bloodstream to convert that into a signal to release insulin. We still lack a lot of evidence directly in type 2 diabetes. But what we're trying to do is combine a very low energy diet with genetic effect of Amino Acids (AA), which seems to play a role in lowering blood glucose. It's almost like it's going to be a super high protein but very low carbohydrate lifestyle intervention.
