Libya is still in turmoil, driven by a decade of not one but two civil wars. It's a land marauded by death squads and foreign mercenaries. Mass graves are still being unearthed. For Gaddafi years, it was just the strangest place I think it ever seemed or been to. He did have his supporters inside Libya as well, and people who were willing to fight till the end.
