SEC Commissioner Hester Piers argued that the core problem is the overall inaction around creating a workable regulatory framework for crypto assets. The timing here may be related to Ethereum's development, as it comes less than six months since the second largest blockchain successfully migrated from proof of work to proof of stake and what became known as the merge. It also comes just one month after the CFTC declared Ether to be a commodity, i.e. not a security - suggesting there may be a little turf war here.
