The Importance of Moral Purpose in Art
There's that idea that art has to have a moral purpose and there's also this idea that the originating impulse for great art is from a religious consciousness. So I think it comes from a higher impulse, an impulse that I'm not even going to pretend that I fully understand, so I agree with him there but let's look at a couple more of Tolstoy's ideas in what is art. He says one of the most important things about a piece of art is that it's sincere and that the artist enters into actually recalls the feeling they wish to experience and to infect others with.
