You have to be willing to kill your darlings, whether it's a thing you wrote or a thing you recorded, an idea, whatever. How can something go from being as important as the tradition of making Christmas cookies was? That thing used to be really, really, really important. And how could it have fallen off the radar? It was replaced by something that was more important. When your mother calls or texts or emails you, she is important and you must answer no matter what you're in the middle of. She is a priority. Just remember that.
