In modern medicine, as we know it, like it was not a thing. And if you were poor, you didn't have the luxuries that the rich had when it came to bathing regularly. At its highest, the infant mortality rate was around 150 per 1000 children in England and Wales. That's pretty high compared to 5.6 per 1000 in the US in 2020.
