Napoleon's biggest victory to date is the crossing of the eastern alps into austria. Not even his most optimistic supporters back in paris had dreamt that this was remotely possible. Looting has long been considered a legitimate part of warfare, the spoils of war. But napoleon loots and then some priceless works of art are soon being shipped back to France on an industrial scale. The treasures from the italian expeditions begin to fill the paris muse central desare. It will be renamed, shortly, the muse napoleon.
