"It's easy to use the AR-15 as kind of a straw man," says gun expert. "Most people think it's an automatic weapon, most people just don't have gun knowledge" It's mostly a home defense type of weapon; some travel with rifles in their trucks and they'll have a rifle or AR-15,. The M16 is a rifle that the United States military used for purposes of war and the AR- 15 is, I guess, the consumer version of that weapon.
