I think anything that contributes to targeting is in a way a benefit. If it's targeted to me, maybe I don't like being advertised to but if it's at least vaguely relevant, there are times when advertising does come off as a service. It would certainly be an interesting time to see what role legislation plays and what advertising looks like in the future. But hypothetically, the free market could give us TVs that don't have garbage built into them.
