The Puritans and the Promised Land
Hannah Yannick: The idea of the promised land is giving a religious dimension to the narrative of settler colonialism. She says America doesn't have an actual sectarian national religion, but it does have collective beliefs and rituals. "You can tie God to this idea of America as utopia," she says.
