CHAPTER

The Monastery - The Birthplace of Social Justice

In the beginning, monasteries were more than anything, outposts on the edge of the roman empire. Entire towns grew up around these monasteries. The monastery was home for the hospital, for social justice, for feeding the hungry, for cultural renewal. It was this axis point, this vision of two worlds. Imagine with me a city, a portland, where every follower of jesus is practising radically ordinary hospitality. I say that for one very imple reason, to spark your imagination. Who knows what could come from your home or your apartment, or your table, or your family or life?
