Julian Elting and the Fascinating Widow
Julian Elting's female impersonation became enormously popular, especially among women in the words of comedian and actor WC Fields. The fascinating widow opened on Broadway that year as well, running for 52 performances before going on tour. By 1907, Elting was able to go on a European tour to Vienna, Berlin, Paris, and London. In 1910, Elting became the highest paid male actor in the country with a contract that guaranteed him $3,000 a week.
