The Proximity War in Ukraine

A proxy war traditionally involves an element of geopolitical nouse. But is that what's actually happening in Ukraine or might the investment of so many resources, tanks, fighter jets, planes, weapons, weaponry, be a reflection of the West's lack of geopolitically nouse? I don't know, I use the word murky, it's unique in the sense that it's a war that begins essentially as a war between Russia and the Ukraine and it still is the war. There's two wars going on, one for Ukraine's national sovereignty and at the same time there's also a second war which is a proxy war principally between the United States and Russia now.
